Pakistan: 8-10 terrorists enter police headquarters, 2 killed in encounter

A new terrorist attack took place on the evening of February 17 in Karachi, Pakistan. The Karachi police chief’s office has been surrounded. About 8 to 10 gunmen stormed the Karachi Police Chief’s office and occupied three floors.

According to Pakistan’s Geo News, heavy shelling is going on and at least eight to ten terrorists are reported to be hiding in the police office.

Confirming a statement by the Chief Minister of Sindh province, Pakistan’s newspaper Dawn said that gunmen have attacked the office of the Karachi police chief located on Main Sharia Faisal, the firing is still going on.

Sadar police station has also issued a statement saying that he was attacked. “SHO, PI Khalid Hussain Memon informed that unidentified accused attacked Sadar Police Station near Karachi Police Office. Firing is happening everywhere.

The office and the police station are situated next to each other.

Additional police teams and rangers have been called to the site of the attack.

Police surgeon Dr. Sumaiya Syed told Dawn.com that an injured worker of the Edhi Foundation has been brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for treatment.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken note of the situation and directed the concerned DIGs to send personnel from their respective areas. They said, “I want the perpetrators of the attack on the office of the Additional IG to be arrested. The attack on the office of the police chief is not acceptable at any cost”.

The Chief Minister also sought a report from the concerned officer and said that he was personally monitoring the situation. He has also instructed the rangers to reach the spot.

Speaking to Geo News, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that additional contingents of police and rangers have reached the site.

He said, “CM Shah is personally monitoring the operation. The people of Sindh will soon hear the good news.”

The Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police said that two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security officials, while the operation to eliminate five more terrorists, possibly at the Karachi Police Office (KPO), is on.
