Odisha woman cricketer Rajashree Swain was missing since January 11 and her body was found on Friday in a dense forest near Cuttack. The police informed about this. Cuttack’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra said his body was found hanging from a tree in Gurudijhatia forest in Athagarh area.
Rajshree’s coach lodged a missing complaint with the Mangalabagh police station in Cuttack on Thursday. He said that a case of unnatural death would be registered at Gurudijhatia police station.
The police are yet to ascertain the cause of his death. His family, however, alleged that he was murdered as there were injury marks on his body and damage to his eyes. Rajshree’s scooter was found near the forest and her mobile phone was also switched off. Police said that the matter will be investigated from all aspects.
Her family members said that around 25 women cricketers, including Rajshree, were part of a training camp organized by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) at Bajrakabati area for the upcoming national-level cricket tournament to be held in Puducherry. All were staying in a hotel.
The Odisha state women’s cricket team was announced on 10 January but Rajshree was not included in the final list. Police said the next day the players went to the cricket ground in Tangi area for practice but Rajshree told her coach that she was going to Puri to meet her father.
