Mexican Professional Golf Tour crosses borders: the competition will celebrate one of its stages abroad

With seven seasons of existence and 61 stages played throughout 20 states within the national territory, the Mexican Professional Golf Tour (GGPM), the only payment circuit in our country endorsed by the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), announced that it is crossing borders by celebrating a stage in El Salvador.

El Encanto Country Club hosts the first official date of the circuit at foreignfrom January 17 to 21, 2024, in what will be the sixth stage of the series.

“The El Salvador Open Championship is another great step for Mexican golf, just a year ago we were celebrating our integration into the world ranking. There is no doubt that things have been going very well and it gives us great pride and pleasure to announce the internationalization of the Mexican Professional Golf Tour,” commented José Miguel Bejos, Commissioner of the GGPM.

GGPM continues its expansion in the world of Golf

After a successful stage held in Mérida, Yucatanwith the dispute of Jaguar Golf Open presented by Inmobilia, and where the Mexican Alvaro Ortiz achieved victory, the national circuit continues to grow by leaps and bounds. It is worth mentioning that in the last two years, the GGPM has held Qualification Schools, both on home soil and abroad, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, United States, and this year for the first time in Cundinamarca, Colombia. However, the one in El Salvador will be the first official tournament outside of our borders.

Alejandro Quiroz, director of the GGPM, expressed his happiness by confirming that the Mexican Professional Golf Tour will celebrate one of its stages abroad.

“The players received the news with great pleasure and I am sure that we will see a large field in registrations to celebrate our first official event outside of Mexico,” he added.

With the holding of the Central American fair, the internationalization of the competition begins. GGPMwhich, the first of January will complete one year as a member of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), becoming the only continental circuit besides the PGA Tour in awarding points for the world ranking.

“The Mexican tour has been doing things better and better. The fact of giving points for the world ranking makes it much more attractive for players from Latin America, even golfers from the United States and Canada; Without a doubt, the GGPM has become a great platform for all of us,” said Guatemalan José Toledo, Player of the Year in the two most recent seasons in Mexico.
