On 8 July 2023, a student studying in IIT Delhi committed suicide. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ayush Ashna, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. He was a final year student of IIT Delhi, who had joined IIT during the summer course. Police said that Ayush used to stay in the campus hostel located in Uday Nagri.
In fact, the number of suicide deaths among students studying in prestigious institutions has increased in the last few months. Last month in February itself, the news of the suicide of Darshan Solanki, a first year student studying in IIT Mumbai, made headlines. While committing suicide, Darshan had accused of being a victim of caste discrimination.
Manoj C, Deputy Commissioner, Delhi Police said, “Immediately after Ayush’s suicide, the crime team of the police reached the spot. However, the police could not find any suspect in the case. Eventually, the police declared the case a suicide. The investigation is on. Under section 174 of the IPC After registering a case, the proceedings have been started.”
The Dean of IIT Delhi said, “As per our records, the student never approached the college for any kind of help and counseling before the suicide. We pray to God to rest Ayush’s soul in peace soon.” Will organize a tribute meeting to do.”
