The government has issued new rules for online gaming. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a new warning against the advertisements of betting and gambling.

Rules for online gaming

In this warning, the media was advised to avoid promoting betting platforms. The Central Government has issued new rules for online gaming under the amendment of IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules.

Rein on the ad of the betting platform

The ministry has also advised to ban advertisements of betting platforms that violate Indian laws. The ministry said that as per the rules, all online games will be regulated by a Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO).

At the same time, a new online gaming self-regulatory organization will have to be formed to set the criteria for the permission of online games. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that online games related to betting or betting will not be considered in line with the new online gaming rules.

Self-Regulatory Organization

Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that a self-regulatory organization will work to monitor and determine each and every game. He said that the permission will be determined on the basis whether the app includes betting. If betting is involved, the SRO will be in a position to say that those online games are not permitted. That is, it will be necessary to get the permission of SRO for the app. Chandrasekhar said, ‘If any SRO does something wrong, he will be denotified.’

These members will be on the board of an organization registered under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. These members can apply to be notified as a Self Regulatory Organization.

Who will be the members of the board

Individual having special knowledge or practical experience of the online gaming industry. Individual having experience in promoting the interests of users of online games, educationist, specialist in psychology or mental health or such other relevant field, individual having special knowledge or practical experience in the field of communication and IT. An individual who is or has been a member or officer of an organization concerned with the protection of child rights. An individual having practical experience in public policy or public administration or law enforcement or public finance or other related areas, to be nominated by the Ministry.

Industry will get confidence

MPL CEO Sai Srinivas said that the new online gaming rule is historic for the industry. This will make it easier to identify middlemen in online gaming and separate them from gambling. These rules will give confidence to the industry.
