At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in a massive fire that broke out in a multi-storey building in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on January 31. It has been said in media reports that many people are still trapped in the building. The fire was so severe that some rescue workers also got burnt.
The fire broke out at 6 pm at Ashirwad Tower in Joda Phatak area of Dhanbad, about 160 km from state capital Ranchi. PM Modi has tweeted expressing regret over the accident.
Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh has confirmed the death of 14 people in the Dhanbad fire. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the death of the people. He wrote, “The district administration is working on a war footing and treatment is being provided to those injured in the accident.”
Giving information about the incident, SSP Dhanbad Sanjeev Kumar said, “14 people died and 12 others were injured in a fire in an apartment in Dhanbad. Many people were present in the apartment to attend a wedding ceremony.” The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. We are focusing on the rescue. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.”
