At least 14 people were killed and more than 70 were injured in an explosion in a building in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
According to the news agency Reuters, an official of the local fire service said that the explosion occurred on Tuesday, 07 March in the crowded market area of Dhaka. The official said that the cause of the explosion is not yet clear. He said that the death toll may increase as the rescue operation is still going on.
Local media reported that five fire brigade units were sent to the spot after the explosion. BDNews24 news portal told that this happened at around 4:50 pm (local time). Police Chowki Inspector Bachchu Miyan told that the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He said that all of them are being treated in the emergency unit of the hospital. On the ground floor of the building there are several stores for sanitary products and next to it is a branch of BRAC Bank.
The report said that a bus parked on the opposite side of the road was also damaged by the explosion.
Police Inspector Bachchu Miyan told AFP that at least 45 people had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Bachchu Miyan told that “There are two women among the dead. The rest are injured and are being treated.
